ORAL CANCER SCREENING
AN ORAL CANCER SCREENING MAY JUST SAVE YOUR LIFE!
In most cases, oral cancer screenings are often performed during a regular dental check-up. The dentist will examine the mouth and feel for any abnormalities or lumps. Dr. Grisel Martos goes beyond simple oral exams and incorporates the use of state-of-the-art technology to perform advanced screenings.
SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE:
Velvety white, red or speckled patches in the mouth
Swelling, thickening, lumps or bumps
Rough, crusted, or eroded spots on the lips, gums or inside the mouth
Unexplained bleeding, numbness, pain or tendernes
Persistent sores around the face that may bleed easily
Unexplained earaches
Lumps in the neck
This cancer produces an uncontrollable amount of cell damage surrounding healthy tissues within the mouth. It can develop in several areas, including the lips, the oral cavity – where the gums, teeth, and tongue are located – or the oropharynx – where the soft palate and tonsils are located.
WHO IS AT RISK?
While certain hereditary traits may be part of the cause, there are other risk factors which can increase the likelihood of developing this condition:
Tobacco Use
Excessive alcohol consumption
Poor diet
Extreme sun exposure
Men over 50 have an increased risk, and 70% of reported cases occur in men. Among men, it is the sixth most common cancer behind prostate and lung cancer. It is also suspected that the human papilloma virus (HPV) can be a risk factor as well.

Advantages of the ViziLite include:
Quick, 2-minute procedure
Reduced device size allows easier access
Technology is clinically proven to increase detection
Chemiluminescent light improves visualization
Device is disposable
Eliminates cross-contamination
Heightens infection control
No false negative outcomes
Number of false positives reduced, decreasing biopsies
